For Families

Covenant-First Presbyterian is blessed with a large – and growing – population of children, ranging from newborns to teenagers.  Our staff and members are dedicated to creating a loving, Christian community to ensure our young ones are exposed to Bible-based teachings and positive influences to empower them to make good decisions and be faithful servants in the future. We are thankful for the saints of our past and humbled how the Lord has used all who have worshipped Him at Covenant-First for the past 220 years.

All current events, programs, and opportunities are regularly publicized in our Sunday worship bulletin, our newsletter (The Covenant Courier), and on our website and Facebook page.

Sunday School

Covenant-First offers a wide array of Sunday School classes for children ages two and up as well as adults.  Classes occur 9:15-10:15am before worship every Sunday.  The nursery provides care at this time to children age two and under.

Nursery

Our nursery is located in the church’s lower level and is available to infants and toddlers through age three.  Children are free to read books, play with puzzles and toys, and enjoy Christian fellowship with folks their own size. Our Nursery Supervisor, Ms. Kristie, provides a fun and safe environment 9:15-11:45am every Sunday as well as during most other events held at church. Parents are asked to pick their children up immediately following morning worship before heading to Metzger Hall for Fellowship Hour.

Children’s Church

Children’s Church is offered during the Sunday worship service and aims to prepare children to sit through and understand the “grown up” Christian worship service.  Children are dismissed from the adult worship service during the doxology to attend their own age-appropriate worship service or time of instruction.  Children under age four go downstairs to the lower level, while older children have their time of worship in the chapel.  Once a child can sit through the adult worship service, we encourage and welcome this, as they are an integral part of the family of God.  This ministry is taught by a rotation of Covenant-First members and involves a simple children’s liturgy, including regular hymns, Scripture memorization, and corporate prayers.  Parents are asked to pick their children up immediately following morning worship before heading to Metzger Hall for Fellowship Hour.

Fellowship Hour

The Covenant-First Family welcomes all friends and guests to join us for Fellowship Hour in Metzger Hall following every Sunday morning worship service.  Hot and cold snacks and refreshments are available for everyone as compliments to good conversation, laughter, and Christian fellowship.

Baptisms

As a Bible-based church, we invite every believing family to have their children baptized, obeying the word of God, which says, “Repent and be baptized every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. This promise is for you and your children.” (Acts 2:38-39)  Children are an integral part of any community, and at Covenant-First we honor God’s work in and through them by emphasizing this sacrament.  Since baptism is the sacrament that brings us into the church, and because the congregation plays an integral role in the ceremony, all baptisms are normally a part of a Sunday morning worship service.

Vacation Bible School/ Summer Bible Institute

A Bible-based church, Covenant-First is happy to offer some of the best Christian learning opportunities in the area each summer.  Children have the opportunity to learn the Word through fun games, songs, and activities, and adults have a variety of classes to choose from.  Classes are free and open to the public.

Annual Church Picnic

Our church picnic is typically held on a sunny, summer Sunday at an area park.  Park swings and slides are available for children and horseshoes and cornhole are available for adults looking for some fun competition.  This is a great opportunity to spend time with your friends and visit with new friends outside of church while we enjoy a potluck dinner together.

Sundae Sunday
Following worship each year on the Sunday closest to Independence Day, join us across the street in Piatt Park for Sundae Sunday. It's a great day for socializing with family and friends, featuring ice cream sundaes and homemade cookies.   Kids may even get a chance to pet a Cincinnati Police horse!
Parents’ Night Out

Designed especially for parents with young children, Parents' Night Out is when we open and staff the nursery on a Friday or Saturday evening so moms and dads can spend the night out---for dinner, shopping, or maybe just a long walk around downtown. Watch for upcoming PNOs on Facebook. Children should be fed supper before being brought to the nursery. To help offset the church's costs, there is a $10 fee per family.
