Sunday Worship Series: The Purpose of the Church

During Lent, we are focusing on The Purpose of the Church.  We'll take a closer look at the six spiritual disciplines we encourage in the church:  Worship the Triune God, Bear Witness, Study the Word of God, Share in Fellowship, Serve to Show Righteousness, and Stewardship for the King.  Join us at 10:30 on Sundays for this new series.

March 15 Wednesday Topic of the Week:  Indecent Exposure

Last week, City Councilwoman Yvette Simpson criticized a burlesque dancer who, as part of a public talent show, stripped down to the bare essentials and then more.  Councilwoman Simpson received a chorus of criticism from people all across the community.  This event happened on the heels of a very public flap over actress Emma Watson’s revealing Vanity Fair photoshoot and Nicki Minaj showed up in the audience at Paris Fashion week, wearing a dress that only covered one breast.

At one time, these events would have been considered “Indecent Exposure.”   What are we to think about modesty and our dress?  Join us as we search the scriptures for wisdom on this timely topic.  Stay afterward for soup, salad, and stimulating conversation.  There’s a recommended donation of $3 for the soup and salad.  The stimulating conversation is priceless.

Dordt College Concert Band and Chamber Orchestra Friday, Mar 10 at 7:30

Dordt College brings their acclaimed Orchestra and Band to Cincinnati as part of their Spring Tour. The Concert Band is a select group of 50 instrumentalists who perform wind and percussion masterworks and premiere new compositions and arrangements. The ensemble has gained a reputation for performances that are extremely expressive and beautiful, as well as technically sound. The Chamber Orchestra is a select group of 20 to 30 string players who perform works for string orchestra and are regularly joined by some of Dordt's finest student and faculty wind players for performances of chamber orchestra music.

This free concert is part of a spring tour with performances scheduled in Illinois, Michigan, Ontario, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Ohio, Wisconsin and Iowa. Directed by Dr. Bradley Miedema, the ensembles will perform a wide variety of instrumental selections, ranging from orchestral works by Boccherini, Holst, Järnefelt, Quantz, and William Grant Still to contemporary wind band pieces by Arnold, Grainger, Hearshen, Markowski, and Peter Graham.

The concert is free, with a freewill offering received to help defray tour expenses.

Join us for this great evening of music and fellowship.
